Rachel Ann Austen

Oil Painting - Poppies on Blue II

Oil Painting - Six poppies on green

Mixed Media Maps - Mapleleaf

Blue Rocks - Watercolor

Have to say loving mixed media at the moment, and in particular love the simplistic works of Rachel Ann Austin With a background in hands on art, Rachel explores a number of themes in her paintings, and uses varied media. Her oil series on poppies is perhaps my favorite, and featured on her site an inspiring range of watercolors in 'seed' a theme. Love em!

Reclaimed Wood & Metal Desk

1920's French Drafting Table

Flatiron Desk

Restoration Hardware truly lives up to its name sake, with the release of these timeless pieces.
I am particularly partial to the printmakers desk, being both practical and dignified. Though each of these are all very smart additions to your home office.

Anthro Stationery...... nice

Salatiga Note Cards, Flowering Twig pencil, Cloth Petulu Journal
Sunda Note Cards, Both Hemispheres Journal.

There are only a handful of stores that I cannot possibly walk by without venturing in and at the very least, admiring the view. Anthropologie is just one of those stores that can draw me in and swallow me up, and I couldn't be happier. Unique accessories like the flowering twig pencil, and bright stationery that is not afraid of exhibiting bold colors, patterns and texture. I'm there.

Hammer and Daisy - Gracia and Louise

Using paper as their primary medium, Hammer and Daisy - aka Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison make limited edition artists' books, lithographic offset prints, zines and the like, and have been doing so for many years now. Based in Melbourne, and working from home, and they are often to be found up late tinkering on some project.

Every single element of their handmade journals, pouches, pencil cases and owls, is handmade. They fold by hand the paper of every concertina journal and the holes along the spine of every square knot are individually punched, one page at a time. The covers are cut from various fabrics, ironed and glued, ready to be assembled at a later date and the small brass wires that rest in each saddle section are hand bent to form tiny right angles. The spine of each each square knot journal is made up by a series of knots, with a single A4 journal requiring 168 square knots.

Gracia and Louise often use quilting fabrics from the UK and US, including reprinted vintage designs from the 30's and 40's with their familiar and beautiful muted colours, and Japanese kimonos for their wide sleeves and their penchant for a handsome, decorative lining. They love combining new fabrics with old finds, ensuring that each and every piece is unique.

Recently, G&L have branched out and added a handful of greeting cards to the
hammer & daisy lineup. They have six different greeting card and four postcard designs currently available, suitable to be sent as a festive greeting, to share a little love, to wish someone well or to send by way of apology. All are full colour offset print on a smooth, matte finish, heavy weight stock with a matching self adhesive white envelope.

Poppies for Grace - for my desk

Poppies for Grace began three years ago in Australia, this company is as you could guess" all about the paper, and its endless possibilities for scribbling, giving and well, jumping up and down really."
The seemingly never-ending hills of the orchard these girls work from give colour and life to their art. It is something about wide open spaces that works magic over these creative girls: Alana, Sara and Kate. Loving your products.

BOHO Magazine

On my recent visit to the much loved Barnes and Noble, I discovered the recently released magazine BOHO. Launched by Seed Media, the new green fashion mag is dedicated to the eco-conscious woman. As soon as I picked up this mag and felt the non-glossy pages - confirming my first impression the use of recyled paper. Using 100% post consumer waste and printing with soy inks. I knew I was going to love it - and I do!!! Congrats to Gina La Morte founder and editor for having planted the seed! A new era has arrived.
